Description: ASC is bringing thespians from across the UCLA campus come together to battle the clock in the "Iron Show" challenge, a unique twist of the "24 Hour Plays" concept blended with the mystery and pressure of "Iron Chef." Playwrights, directors, actors, and crews have just one day to write, rehearse, and present original 10-minute plays. Basically, participants gather for a meet and greet that Saturday night and are grouped in teams for each play - and the secret theme that will unite the plays is revealed! The selected playwrights have until 8am the next morning to turn in their 10-minute plays. Then each play's team has until show time to rehearse and prepare for that Sunday night's performances of the "Iron Show" 10-minute plays. Can UCLA handle the heat? Duties of volunteers: 3 volunteers to assist with front-of-house duties (guest check-in/ushering) [Approx. time: 4 hours], 5 volunteers to assist with set-up/breakdown of the venue [Approx. time: 4 hours], 6 volunteers to serve as "stage managers" (one for each of the plays) who will be an assistant to the director/go-between for their play and the producing team for the full day of rehearsals/performances [Approx. time: 13 hours]. If you've ever fancied yourself a theatrical person, now's your chance to show your stuff! You can sign up to write, direct, or even act in one of the plays. UCLA's I'm Going to College (IGTC) program, the nation's largest collegiate community outreach effort, has touched the lives of thousands of elementary, middle and high school students across Southern California. Offered through Southern California school systems, this unique program couples the excitement and tradition of UCLA Athletic events with a message about the importance of higher education. UCLA Faculty & Staff, alumni, current students and student-athletes are instrumental in facilitating the success of this game day program as they guide thousands of children through educational fairs, campus tours and special attractions. Children delight in the success of Bruin teams, however, they leave I'm Going to College events with a greater understanding of the college environment and a feeling that it is an attainable goal for their own futures.

This non-profit organization runs mentoring programs in schools of greatest need in the Los Angeles Area. LATM's model is a special one; a team of three mentors (one teacher, one corporate employee, and one college student) provide guidance, resources, and support to a group of about 12 middle school students. LATM has created a year-long curriculum that includes activities and workshops designed to prepare mentees for the future. Each school site is sponsored by a corporation (Disney, Comast, Time Warner). In addition to weekly school site visits, there are fun outings and field trips with the mentees to the Beach, Disneyland, and parks.
